And in the morning...we can make WAFFLES!

Rosie and I made waffles for lunch today.

We wore our pajamas and watched The Pink Panther cartoon while making them.

They were so delicious! I wish I could fit more in my stomach.

I realized after I made them that I used all local ingredients. Fresh local milk (that I actually buy at Whole Foods--from cow to store shelf in 12-48 hours!), Amish sweet cream butter from the Amish settlement about an hour and a half south of here, flour milled at a mill 30 minutes away near my grandparents' house, and eggs from my hens. Of course the salt, baking soda, baking powder, and sugar just came from the grocery...I don't think you can buy those things local anyway? And the syrup was from somewhere up north, but at least it was real maple syrup...

This is the waffle recipe I always use.

I put a lot of cinnamon in the batter and I use sucanat instead of white sugar. Instead of buttermilk I just use regular milk, it's the kind that's not homogenized. It just comes straight out of the cow. I shake the cream into it before pouring. (I can't wait until the day when I can own a cow!)

Important note: If you don't use room temperature eggs and room temperature milk then your batter will make terrible, horrible lumps.

The best part about these waffles is that it makes enough (especially if you do a double batch) to have lots of leftovers. I wrap each waffle in foil, then put them all in a big ziplock bag and toss them in the freezer. To re-heat I either break them in half and toast them, or pop them in the oven for a little while. Instant homemade breakfasts!

Those waffles were so good. Aaah.

Now I need a nap, I'm stuffed full.

Too bad I should probably clean my house instead.

Totally off the subject of waffles, and not the least bit appetizing...

Rosie has learned to wipe her own bum!!! I am so proud.

Now if she could just quit forgetting to go to the potty until the last second and dribbling pee in her panties, we would be all set...

Those sound really good. I could do those and soak them 24 hours with buttermilk and they'd be traditional. :) YUM!
